Best Epilators of 2018

Ibest epilators 2018n 2018 there aren't other “best epilators” for you. The list is almost the same as in the previous years, but the best thing right now is that we have more reviews about these good epilators.

One thing should be clear for everyone: if an epilator is good for a person, this doesn't mean directly that it is good for another one. There are persons who can use any type of epilator without any problem and others who have sensitive skin or other skin problems and prefer only one type of epilator.

Criteria When You Buy an Epilator

When you choose an epilator you have to take into consideration many features. Nowadays, the more features an epilator has, the better seems to be. Companies have gone further and they have incorporated other functions to a simple epilator, like massage, exfoliation, trimmer, shaver, devices specially created for cleansing the face. These additions make the product much better and have motivated people, women and men as well, to buy one for a convenient beauty routine.

Shortly, you should look at an epilator for these features:

  • Number of Tweezers. Those who used an epilator so far will tell you that more tweezers are better, but this also means more pain at once. For example, the Emjoi AP-18 Emagine Epilator has no more than 72 tweezers, making it the most powerful epilator on the market in 2018. Next to the list is Panasonic ES-ED90-P with 48 tweezers.

  • Cord/Cordless (Rechargeable). If you choose a corded epilator, you should check for a long cord because you will need it for moving the epilator easy on your body. Although it can not be used in a wet environment, the convenience is that it will never remain without power, so you will be able to finish epilating, no matter how much time it will take. If you choose a cordless epilator, you should look for one which has a powerful battery, which can last at least 45 minutes after charging it.

  • Wet and Dry function/ only Dry Function. Only cordless epilators can have this function. Besides being practical to epilate while you are taking a bath, the wet epilation is less painful. But many users consider that a dry epilation is more efficient. So, either you choose dry epilation (more pain, efficient epilation, removing short hairs better) or wet epilation (less pain, less efficient epilation because the wet hairs tend to stick on the skin and some of them won't be plucked out with the device, you don't see too well in the water or shower) is up to you.

  • Noise Level. Basically, every epilator is loud, after all, it is an electric device which spins a little engine inside. This makes noise. But some epilators can be acceptable, while others can be heard by your neighbors.

  • Speed Settings to personalize your epilator's intensity. Nowadays almost every epilator has dual speed settings. For first time users, the first speed is better because they aren't used to the pain and discomfort that an epilator can give.

  • Built-in Light. It is a simple feature, but very efficient. Using it, you can see what you are doing and you can easily notice short hairs, which normally can be missed.

  • Massage. The massage sensation can reduce pain because it soothes the skin during epilation, thus reducing slightly pain and discomfort.

  • Washable Head. It is necessary to keep the epilator clean. If the epilator has the wet and dry function, this function is by default.

  • Numbers of Cap for different areas of the body. Every cap should be used for a specific body area and using it will definitely reduce the pain during epilation. After all, this is the purpose of having more than one cap.

  • Other Additions. Some epilators may be a trimmer as well, or a shaver or an exfoliation device. These multi-purpose devices are convenient and preferred by many users.

  • Price. When you buy an epilator, you should take into consideration the price of the epilator. Being expensive doesn't make an epilator to be the best. Cheap epilators can also be of quality. My conclusion is that even the most expensive epilator can be “affordable” in time because if you calculate right, you will see that this device, which can last years to come, will be cheaper than the disposable razors or the wax that you have to buy monthly or the trips to the salon for waxing your unwanted hair. Still, waxing or epilating the unwanted hair is a personal choice, therefore, anyone should be prepared to pay for the chosen hair removal method.

Which brands of epilators are on the market?

The most common ones, but not all, are:

1. Braun at this time has more series which include Braun Silk-Epil 3, Braun Silk-Epil 5, Braun Silk-Epil 7, Braun Silk-Epil 7 Skin Spa, Braun Silk-Epil 9 and Braun Silk-Epil 9 Skin Spa.

This being said, Braun is the market leader for epilators. The company had a long way to go from manufacturing the first electric shaver (S 50) and other electronics to manufacturing great epilators.

2. Panasonic. Although the models of epilators are limited, they are considered to be top-notch. Panasonic is at this time the Braun's most feared competition. Its epilators have a skin protection technology to reduce the pain and hypoallergenic blades for reducing skin infection.

3.Phillips is notorious on the market for its electronic devices, including epilators. They are cheaper and smaller compared to other epilators.

4.Remington makes wet and dry epilators designed for body and face, which are efficient and convenient.

5.Emjoi. The company has one of the widest selection of epilators and even an epilator for men. It is the first company which has created for men a powerful device which can remove unwanted hair. Having all kinds of models, from corded to rechargeable, from simple to gold-plated hypoallergenic models, many users consider the company's epilators convenient devices and very practical for traveling.

6.Epilady. The company is the first to launch an epilator on the market, based on the coil technology. The epilators are designed for body and face. The most popular models are Epilady Legend 4 and Epilady Epiflex, which is the only dual head and dual epilator on the market.

7.Other brands: LaFlantine, Chainer, Scheam, Mazu, Epiwand, Flend and others.

This being said, the most popular epilators on the market in 2018 are considered to be:

Before I start analyzing the most popular epilators on the market of 2108, I will tell you some basic things.  Every one of them should do the same thing: removing hairs from the root, without breaking them or cutting them. While others are more powerful and others have fewer tweezers, they all inflict pain.

Each model of epilator has a different technology which is designed to reduce pain or to reduce skin irritation and skin infection. Each company considers that its epilator is perfect for removing even the shortest hair from your skin, but in reality, this is not entirely true. The way that you keep the device (90 degrees angle on the skin and keep the skin taut) is also important to remove the smallest hairs.

No matter what type of epilator you are using, clean the epilator before and after epilation with alcohol to reduce the risk of getting your skin infected.

Every epilator should offer one or 2 year warranty.

1. Braun Silk-Epil 9-579

the best epilator on the market Braun 9-579My favorite choice is Braun Silk Epil 9-579 and maybe it will be for a long period of time. I am not saying that because I am using it, but because it is one of the best epilators on the market and it is really complex. The “skin spa” version is also amazing for women who want more than an epilation experience.

Braun 9 series of epilators are an improved version of the Braun 7 series, which means that many features are still the same.

The technology of this model is revolutionary. The new Micro Grip Tweezer system is even more precise than the Close Grip Tweezer technology from the Braun 7 series and the company advertise that it pulls out even the shortest hairs (0,5 mm). In reality, the epilator does an amazing job pulling very short hairs, but not all of them are removed. I think that this depends also on what type of hair you have (coarse, thick or thin) and how you use the epilator. You need to have a certain inclination, a 90-degrees angle on the skin.

Having a wider head, the epilation process will be shorter. It is really fast, but with the 2-speed settings you can adjust the speed as you please.

Even though this series has more models, Braun Silk-Epil 9-579 is the most complex one, having:

  • A shaver head.
  • A trimmer cap.
  • A power cap also called efficiency cap, which gives maximum contact with your skin for better results.
  • A facial cap designed to protect your delicate skin. But the plastic attachment is quite thick and doesn't allow to catch short hairs.
  • A facial brush.

This makes the device not only an excellent and high-rated epilator but also a trimmer for shortening the hair, a shaver and a device for massage, improving blood circulation and reducing epilation pain.

This being said, the models from this series have the same main epilator device and different attachments. For example, the only difference between models 9561 and 9579 is that the last one has a facial cleansing brush. The company promises that this brush can clean 6 times better than the manual cleansing, removing dead facial cells and pore impurities. And it is also waterproof. I consider that this statement is overrated, but still, it does a great job and it is more efficient than my manual facial exfoliation.

It is a wet and dry model, with a charging stand for an always charged device. After being charged one hour, it can be used 40 minutes. In water, the time is reduced, about 30minutess. Probably because it needs more power to function in the water.

The pivoting head can adapt to any body shape, making the epilation an easy experience. I consider that with a better skin contact, the results are definitely improved.

Pros Cons

Better tweezer technology, different shape, longer and differently positioned.

A little bit loud.

40 tweezers, 40% wider head. It can not be used while it is charging.
Waterproof, cordless, long battery lifespan, fast charging and 40 minutes of use. Painful, like any other epilators, even though the new innovations are incorporated into the model for reducing the pain.
Smart Light led. It doesn't have a sensitive cap for sensitive areas like bikini area.
Massage head, Pivoting head. Expensive.
Wet and Dry use.

The customers' reviews should be the decisive factor to determine you to buy or not Braun Silk-Epil 9-579. The opinions are mixed of course, but with a 4,2 out of 5 stars and with more than 1000 positive reviews and about 270 critical reviews, this really tells something about this epilator.

2. Philips HP6576

good epilator Philips HP6576 Satin Perfect Deluxe EpilatorA unique feature of this model is that the discs are from ceramic and are hypo-allergenic. It has a wide head for an efficient epilation and it is powerful.

Even though it is cordless, you can not use it in the water. IT IS NOT WATERPROOF. So, it is your choice how you epilate, with cord or without it. Having it plugged in will guarantee better results.

The unit has an active massage system, which soothes the skin, making the epilation slightly less painful.

It has 4 attachments and a pair of illuminating smart tweezers and a small integrated mirror, this unit is indeed a full body epilator, except the face, making the process incredibly easy.

Attachments:

  • Shaving head.
  • Trimming comb.
  • Active hair lifter attachment.
  • An active massaging system with pivoting cap.
Pros Cons
32 ceramic, hypo-allergenic tweezers. Not waterproof.
Active hair lifter vibration for lifting up flat hairs.

Expensive.

Washable head, which means that you can remove the head from the epilator and wash it in safe conditions. Loud.
Can be used while charging. Battery lasts about 30-40 minutes.
Dual speed settings, Smart Light. Not good for facial hair.
Pivoting head.
The instructions are misguiding.

Many users are pleased with this model, considering it to be better than Braun Silk-Epil 7681 at its performance.

3.Panasonic ES-ED90-P

best epilator Panasonic ES-ED90-PPanasonic is the greatest competition for Braun. There are users who had more epilators over the years and consider it even better than Braun.

With an impressive 48 tweezers head and completely waterproof, the device is more than an epilator. But the main function is to remove hairs from their roots and with hypoallergenic blades the epilator does a great job.

The shaver is a good addition and it is ideal for a woman’s personal care routine. Its sharp stainless-steel blades are perfect for obtaining amazing results. The rest of the attachments helps you to remove the hairs from the entire body, except the face.

The pedicure buffer is an original feature for Panasonic and the pumice stone removes all the dead skin from your feet, only if it is used on a dry skin, recommended after 30 minutes after shower or bath.

Pros Cons
Dual speed setting. It doesn't work too well on very short hairs.
Wet and dry technology. Can not be used while it is charging. It needs one hour to charge and it can be used 40 minutes after that.
Cordless, can be used in shower/bath or on dry skin. The company does not recommend it for facial use.
Hypoallergenic Stainless-Steel Blades and Foil for reducing skin irritation and skin infection. It is recommended to replace the inner blade and outer foil once a year or once at two years. The replacement parts are easy to find and affordable.
Built-in led light.
It has a long battery life, which is a great feature.
Washable for easy cleaning.
It is a quiet epilator.

6 different attachments:

  • Shaver head with a pop-up trimmer
  • Gentle epilator head – reduces the number of the main head tweezers and makes the process of removing hair from a sensitive area less painful. The epilator can go in small areas better with a smaller head
  • Epilator gentle (precise) cap
  • Bikini comb
  • Dual-disc epilator head – the head pivots 30 degrees forward and 30 degrees backward, making easy to remove hair from the curved areas of the body.
  • Pedicure buffer

The epilator is a comfortable device, easy to be used. With 6 attachments, Panasonic-ES-ED90 is a great choice for beginners because they are designed for different body areas and they don't confuse the user.

4. Braun Silk Epil 5 5-280

efficient epilator Braun Silk-épil 5 5-28Even though it was released in 2012, the model was never updated. This model is corded, having a long cord, perfect for reaching difficult areas.

The power is the same as a rechargeable model. With 40 tweezers and with high frequency massaging rollers, the epilation is less painful. This massage system stimulates skin for a more comfortable epilation, but not entirely without pain.

With the Close-Grip 40 Tweezer Technology, the epilation is more efficient, capturing even short hairs as 0,5 mm.

A cooling glove, which will be used to numb your skin before epilation and soothe your skin after epilation, if you keep it in the fridge and rub your area that you want to epilate. Even so, it is not recommended to be used before because a cold gel can tighten the pores, which may lead to more ingrown hairs. It is up to you how you use the glove.

The head is pivoting which makes it easy to go over the curved areas of the body.

Attachments:

  • Shaver.
  • Trimmer cap.
  • Efficiency cap.
Pros Cons
High-frequency massage system. Used only on a dry skin.
Close-Grip 40 tweezer technology. Corded. Not waterproof.
Pivoting head. Not for facial use.
Washable head. Expensive.
2-speed button, on/off white dial circle.
Smart Light for seeing even the shortest hairs.
Cooling gel bag, which is inserted in glove.

5. Emjoi AP-18

powerful epilator Emjoi AP-18 cordedEmjoi Ap-18 is the only epilator with the bigger number of tweezers on the market, making it a strong device. This also means that it will imply more pain. Also, it is the only one with the Silver Ion Technology, which is a good antimicrobial protection. But the skin irritation is reduced because you will reduce the number of passes required to achieve smooth skin.

It has a patent glide technology and it has flaps/lifting fingers in the middle of the head to make the hairs stand up for being plucked. The dual opposed heads stretch the skin and remove hairs better than other epilators.powerful cordless epilator Emjoi AP-18

This device can be bought cordless or corded, but both models can be used only on a dry skin.

It is a powerful epilator which can be used by women and men, who have coarser, thicker hairs. But the company already has a model designed especially for men.

Pros Cons
72 tweezers. Dry use no matter the model(corded or cordless).
Silver Ion Technology. No attachment.
Glide technology with lifting fingers in the middle of the epilator's head. Loud.

6. Braun Silk Epil 7 7-681

excellent epilator Braun 7-681It is an excellent epilator, well rated on different websites and with a lot of happy users. From 2016 when it was released, it has been the favorite of many people, including celebrities (Maria Gregersen, Sofie Winterson and others).

As any other epilator, it inflicts pain while it removes the hairs from their roots, but the massage system helps to reduce this pain. It has an ergonomic design, easy to be held and to be used in difficult areas and on curved body areas. The pivoted head is for this purpose, to move and reach those curved areas of the body, like knees, armpits, ankles. Also, it has “Soft Lift Tips” to lift flat-lying hairs away from the skin and toward the device's tweezers to be plucked out easily.

The device has 40 tweezers, which makes the epilation faster, going less with the epilator on the same area. Thus, the skin won't be too irritated.

With all its attachments and the technology that is incorporated in it, Braun Silk-Epil 7681 is a whole body device, even for the face.

It can be used in the shower or on a dry skin.

5 attachments:

  • Facial cap.
  • Efficiency cap.
  • High-frequency massage cap.
  • Shaver with a trimmer attachment.
  • Precision cap.

The attachments can be easily changed by pushing the release button on the back of the epilator.

Pros Cons
Close-grip technology. 40 tweezers. Loud.
The massage system. Expensive.
It removes even the shortest hair up to a depth of 0.5 mm. No use while charging.
Pivoting head for reaching difficult, curved body areas. The additional caps are bulky.
Smart Light to see the area which is epilated and too see every hair that needs to be plucked out. 1 hour to be fully charged. It has a green light and when it stops blinking it is charged completely. When it is red, the battery is consumed.
2-speed button, slow and fast. 40 minutes of use dry. 30 minutes if it is used in the water.
Cordless, wet and dry use. Rechargeable.
Waterproof. Washable head.
Ergonomic design.

7. Philips HP6401

the best cheap epilator Philips HP6401It is considered to be the best cheap epilator on the market. It is just a basic epilator, without any additional feature, but it is very efficient at plucking hairs from the root, without ripping them off or cutting them.

The device is small, with only 21 hypo-allergenic tweezers for reducing skin irritation. Even though it has a small number of tweezers, the device removes great the unwanted hair, but it takes a longer time for any area of the body. More passes will be needed, so the skin is prone to irritate faster, but this is also the reason why the device has hypo-allergenic tweezers.

The best area that can cover is the legs. For other areas, the device can be painful. Without a pivoting head, the epilator is better for flat areas.

The reason why Philips HP6401 is among the best epilators at this time is that even is cheap, it does a great job for this money. And people who want to try for the first time epilation and don't want to waste too much money on a new experience should try Philips HP6401.

The only accessory is an efficiency cap. Many users consider that it is necessary only a few times and it works better without it, even in sensitive areas. For those who are scared that they will catch their skin in the epilator, the cap is a good barrier between the epilator head and their skin.

The pain is there, but it is less in compared to other epilators due to the small head and the small number of tweezers.

Pros

Cons
One efficiency cap. Don't have a cleaning brush.
Corded epilator. The cable length gives you plenty freedom of movement. It doesn't have the wet and dry technology.
2-speed settings. Difficult to use in narrow and curved areas.
Low price. Not good for facial epilation.
Small, light device with an ergonomic design. Very loud.
Washable head. Don't let the entire device to be closed to the water. It is best to detach the head from the device and clean it.

No built-in light and if you had an epilator you will realize that is is a bad news.

Epilation means pain, but in time you will get used with it and you will love your new epilator. I don't want to scare you, but at first, you may even cry, sweat or see your skin follicles bleed, especially in sensitive areas, like pubic area and armpits. Or maybe for you, the experience will be a walk in the park. It depends from person to person. There are methods to reduce the epilation pain and you should use them for bearing the epilation.

Also, epilation is not for everyone. First of all, minors shouldn't use an epilator, secondly, there are people who just prefer waxing even though the pain is slightly the same and have to pay, over time, more money for waxing kits or going to the salons.

This is important to do a detailed research and read customers reviews to be able to choose the best epilator for you.
